Carries DTS Testimony from India
Carrie has just completed her DTS and for her outreach was part of a team that worked with Megacities in Kolkata.
So, tell me a story.
I was with one of our staff, Inga May, one morning at a preschool we were working in a few times a week. It was in a slum in Kolkata called Promod Nagar at a preschool, taught by a young woman named Pampa. When we started the class, a mother came in holding her one year old child and a thermometer. She said something to Pampa in Bengali, and looked quite frightened. Pampa took the temperature of the child and it was 101 degrees. I told her how she can help the temperature go down, and then Inga May and myself declared health over the baby. After that the mother left, and class continued. I asked after a little while if the child would be alright, so Pampa took me to the family’s house. The baby’s temperature had gone down to 99 degrees, but the whole family was very clearly upset by the sickness. I felt some spiritual oppression in the home, it was really clear that Jesus was not acknowledged there and that something else was – so I declared Jesus over the house and the baby, again praying for health. At the end of the preschool, the young mother ran in to tell us that her baby’s temperature was back to normal. I got to tell her that it is Jesus who heals, and that is how it happened. It was so amazing!
When Pampa was taking you back to the baby, what were you thinking?
I was feeling pretty nervous. In India, you have to be on guard spiritually wherever you go, because you just never know what you will be walking into if you go in to someone’s home, for example. Inga May was also still at the preschool teaching, so it was just Pampa and I. Pampa’s English isn’t the best, and neither is my Bengali. It is not my culture to just walk into people’s homes, so that was also a little uncomfortable for me. When I walked into the home I knew that Jesus wasn’t being worshipped there, and it had quite a dark atmosphere. But I knew and felt that God was with me the entire time – he strengthened me, made me aware of my surroundings, and kept showing me that the house is in great need of Jesus’ light. So I went in nervous but also strengthened by God, confident that his light was shining there – and he showed them in a way that’s impossible to ignore.
Where did you see Jesus the most?
Other than the obvious miracle that Jesus did in healing the baby of that fever, I actually saw Jesus more clearly in the dark house. I felt Holy Spirit really active in me, and I felt God’s determination to reach this family and give off as much light as possible. It was so clear to me what the family is longing for, and it was light in such clear darkness. God is the same in India as he is in America and Scotland, and he makes those divine appointments because it is truly his wish that every soul on Earth would be reconciled to him for His glory!
“The creation waits in eager longing for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and bought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Romans 8: 19-21
